Regeneration
Fundamental to any diesel particulate filter (except a disposable one) is regeneration.
This is the process whereby the filter cleans itself by oxidising the accumulated
diesel particulate matter. There are two distinct approaches to regeneration known
as 'passive' and 'active'. In actual fact the best diesel particulate filter systems
these days combine both approaches, but first of all we’ll discuss them separately.
