Fuel-borne Catalysts
Blackthorn recommends a fuel-borne catalyst called ‘Satacen 3’. This is an iron-based organo-metallic liquid which deposits tiny particles of iron oxide in the DPM during combustion. These facilitate oxidation at temperatures of about 400 C. Satacen 3 was developed by a company called Innospec, which has a turnover of $600 million from operations in 23 countries, and has been approved by VERT, the Swiss environmental body which is pre-eminent in the world of exhaust gas aftertreatment. The typical dosing rate of Satacen 3 is one litre for every 1500 litres of fuel, and it is available from Blackthorn in containers of 2.5, 28 and 200 litres.
